Devastated!!

by Elizabeth
(Annapolis, MD, US)

My daughter and I have been very close since it was just the two of us, she is an only child and her father abandoned her. We agree that we are very different people, I am high strung and have a controlling personality, she is low key and quiet more of an observer but I raised her to be very independent.

She went away to college ( 8 + hrs from me) and ended up staying in the south after school. She is now married and I felt the first hit at that time. She announced her engagement and got married a few days later when visiting me. She did not invite me to witness her marriage and told me three weeks later after going home that she got married at the courthouse.

She just recently had her first child and I was heart broken not to be apart of her delivery. I was so excited for her and me, we spoke almost every day through her pregnancy. I drove like a mad woman to get to the hospital to see the birth of my first grandchild only to be on the outside. My daughter actually asked her sister in law to participate.

Why does she find it necessary not to include me in any of her important life events?

I am completely devastated and afraid to get close for fear of her hurting me more!
