Insulting a Friend...

My mother was being critical of my friends from the start of each friendship I developed, always noticing the "bad" things about them.

Today, she said "Well, I declare, your friend ***** is really FAT!!!"
And then she laughed, as if it was a good thing.
I felt terribly tangled and hurt by my own mother! How could she say such a thing?
We got into a looooong argument which ended up with me in tears and her screaming at me to grow up.

My mother always had problems, but I didn't think that she would ever say something like that!
